Where to play golf in Sicily, amid magnificent courses and mild weather all year round

History, mountains, sea: Sicily’s unique beauty also features on the golf course. If you enjoy a day on the green even while on holiday, allow us to introduce you to these three courses in Palermo, Catania and Agrigento

Every golf course is unique. And their originality isn’t based solely on the number of holes and layout, but also and above all on their location.
With its historical and natural beauty, breathtaking views and mild climate, Sicily offers sensational golf courses, where every swing becomes an unforgettable experience.

In this article, we explore three courses that are entirely different from one another.

Golf Club Palermo – Parco Airoldi

Spanning approximately 400 hectares, this golf course is immersed in a vast 18th-century park, among fountains, monuments and ancient trees. You wouldn’t believe it is actually nestled right in the heart of Palermo. Immersed in the centrally located La Favorita nature reserve, the Golf Club Palermo – Parco Airoldi is the only golf course in Italy located within a city.

The course winds through what was once the hunting and fishing reserve of Ferdinand III of Sicily, among large trees, ponds, pots and marble pillars. The Golf Club offers a 9-hole course and a driving range with 12 bays, of which 4 are covered and floodlit for evening play.

Il Pìcciolo Golf Club – Castiglione di Sicilia, Catania

Sicily’s first ever golf course is located at the foot of Mount Etna, in a natural setting like no other. Il Pìcciolo Golf Club was designed in 1989 by architect Luigi Rota Caremoli, who made the most of the 44 hectares of hilly land, masterfully placing technical obstacles in such a way that the layout seems entirely natural.

This par 72 course, spanning 5,870 metres, offers 18 holes and a driving range with 16 bays, of which 5 are covered.

Verdura Golf Resort – Sciacca, Agrigento

Covering 230 hectares along the stunning Mediterranean coastline, the Verdura Golf Resort, designed by acclaimed architect Kyle Phillips, offers extraordinary views and an unrivalled golfing experience. It is considered the best golf resort in Italy, and the second best in all of Europe.

It boasts two 18-hole championship courses. The first is Verdura Links, a traditional Scottish links-style par 73 course covering 6,763 metres, with fairways that wind along the coastline. The second is Verdura Shore, a par 70 course spanning 6,547 metres, which offers technical challenges with holes nestled between the hills and the sea.

Whether you’re an experienced golfer or a beginner, Sicily has a surprise in store at every hole. Choose your course, hone your swing and enjoy every moment on the green.
